Spring 2020 Dance Competitions
UPDATE AS OF 3/23:
As of now, the spring dance competition is still scheduled for Saturday, May 9th. We will extend the registration deadline to participate in the dance competition to Friday, April 24th.
The next update from FIYA will be on Friday, April 3rd.

Registration is officially open for our 2nd Dance Competition!
Please visit our Registration Page and submit an application for EACH TEAM / CATEGORY your school wishes to participate in the Dance Competition (located in the links to the right of the registration page).

DANCE COMPETITION 2019-20 INFO
There will be two Dance Competitions that your school teams can participate for the 2019-20 season. The first is Saturday February 29th and the second is Saturday May 9th. (Times and locations will be posted as soon as they are finalized).

There are four (4) separate categories for which you may enter a team to compete.
They are as follows:
(1) HIP HOP
(3) DRILL TEAM/MILITARY
(4) DANCE (Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary & Modern)
*Please note that there is NO CHEER category available. FIYA Dance Competition Guidelines and Categories are posted under "Dance Links" on the right of this page.
GROUP SIZES / DIVISIONS
Under each dance category, your school team must select:
(a) group size (“Small” is a minimum of 4 dancers and a maximum of 9 dancers; “Large” is a minimum of 10 dancers and maximum of 19 dancers); and
(b) grade division (Division 3 is 4th grade and below, Division 2 is 6th grade and below and Division 1 is 8th grade and below).
Consequently, similar group sizes in same divisions compete against each other in each dance category.
MUSIC SUBMISSION & REQUIREMENTS:
Coaches / team coordinators must submit their final, edited/ cut music for their performance(s) no later than 48 hours prior to competition.

If you have any issues or need further assistance in doing so, feel free to email email@example.com prior to the 48 hour deadline.
NOTE: All music and lyrics MUST also be clean and appropriate for our audience (radio versions, no explicit language or context, etc.).
WHEN TO REGISTER
For the February 29 competition:
Registration will OPEN on December 1 and will CLOSE on February 10.
For the May 9 competition:
Registration will OPEN on March 1 and will CLOSE on April 17.
For both competitions, the competition order for each category will be inverse based on when registration occurred. That is, a team that registers first will compete last, a team that registers second will compete second to last, etc.
WHAT TO REGISTER
The online registration will be posted within the timeframes mentioned above on our website’s Registration page. Please read the online registration instructions carefully. In addition to basic team information you will need to list the first and last names of all of your dancers and their grade levels in the Pertinent Comments section of the online registration. EACH DANCER CAN PARTICIPATE IN TWO MAXIMUM TEAM EVENTS; ANY DANCER PARTICIPATING IN THREE OR MORE TEAM EVENTS WILL CAUSE PENALTY DEDUCTIONS TO ALL TEAMS.
HOW TO REGISTER
During the appropriate timelines as mentioned above, visit our Registration Page and find the Dance Competition Registration Link. Please note that it takes a few moments for the registration page to load. But it will! In addition, you will need to complete a separate registration for each dance category your school team enters. By way of example, you need to do one online registration for your school’s Division 1 Large Group Hip Hop team and another online registration for your school’s Division 2 Small Group Dance Lyrical.
COSTS TO PARTICIPATE
The costs for the Dance Competition is based on per dancer. For schools that have enrolled as FIYA members (see our Registration page for more information on membership), the cost is $10 per dancer.
For nonmember schools, the cost is $12.50 per dancer.
Payment is due at the event.

PREVIOUS YEARS IN FIYA SPIRIT
In front of a packed house at St. Mary’s Academy in Inglewood on Friday FIYA held its 2015 Spirit Competition. Seventeen different performances from nine schools made for an exciting night for all involved, with St. John Chrysostom defending their overall championship. Thanks so much to Sharp International for helping us run the event, and check out our Facebook page for more pictures.
FIYA held its first ever Spirit Competition Friday before a packed house at St. Mary's Academy in Inglewood. All the teams put on an excellent show, with St. John Chrysostom taking the prize for best overall performance.
Special thanks to Sharp International for contributing so much time, expertise, and effort in making it a memorable experience for all involved.
