as of August 12, 2017
Currently, there are four FIYA cross country meets on the schedule as follows:
Wednesday October 4 - Kenneth Hahn State Park
Wednesday October 11 - Cheviot Hills Recreation Center
Monday October 16 - Edward Vincent Jr. Park
Tuesday October 24 - Kenneth Hahn State Park
All meets start promptly at 4 pm with a coaches meeting. Following the coaches meeting, we will run three separate races by division/gender: Division 3 for 4th grade and below, Division 2 for 6th grade and below and Division 1 for 8th grade and below. Athletes can compete in only one division and athletes can compete up a division based on their grade level but never down a division.
The length of the courses are approximately as follows: 1 mile for Division 3, 1.5 mile for Division 2 and 2 miles for Division 1. The boys for each division run first followed by the girls. Upon conclusion of the final race, we hold a brief awards ceremony for the top individual finishers. We generally wrap up the awards ceremony around 630 pm.
Individual awards are provided as follows: 1 place for every 5 runners. In order to be eligible for team awards, a school must field a team of at least three runners per gender division. For every three school teams in a gender division, FIYA awards one place. To win the team competition, a team must score the lowest number of places amongst its three runners. If there is a tie, the team's fourth runner is the tiebreaker.
In general, to register for FIYA cross country meets, you will need to provide FIYA with notice at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled event. The cost to participate will be $10 to $15 per athlete per meet. Schools may register for any (and all) of the cross country meets. We will have more information on the registration process on or about August 21.
